About The Roles And Requirements Of A Working Gundog
Gundogs, gorgeous gundogs!
Bred to assist in bringing food (game) to the table. However, different gundog group breeds were originally bred to play different roles. That being said, in this day and age more and more people want a good all round gundog, so quite often, the gundog groups and breeds within those groups are being used for multiple or varied roles, rather than for one specific role.
Some gundog breeds were originally bred to find and retrieve game that has been shot. Some gundog breeds were originally bred to find game and flush it for the gun. Some gundog breeds cover various roles. Let’s explore the roles of a gundog.

About the Teacher
Featured Expert Claire Denyer I am a trainer and behaviourist. I run Family Dog Services alongside my husband John. I have been training and working with gundogs professionally for just about 5 years, training gundogs for fun for about 9 years. All my dogs before Indy were pets only. I am passionate about pet and gundog training and showing owners how appropriate training can help prevent behavioural problems with pet dogs, and, that gundog training doesn't require harsh handling. When my dogs work they are primarily picking up dogs, and have worked on Pheasant, Duck, and Partridge, on driven and walked up days, although we do get involved in beating if and when required too. I am the author of the puppy book 'The Life Of Rose' (raising puppies the family dog services way)
